My name is Krystal Richter, and I am a social worker at Elliot Hospital. In a hospital setting, social workers play a vital role in providing support, advocacy, and resources to patients and their families during times of illness, trauma, or distress. We assess the psychosocial needs of patients, offer counseling and emotional support, and facilitate communication between patients, families, and medical teams to ensure holistic care. Social workers also assist with discharge planning, connecting patients with community resources for ongoing support, and navigating complex health care systems. Our overarching goal is to enhance the overall well-being and quality of life for patients and their families by addressing social, emotional, and practical concerns that may arise during their journey with Elliot Hospital. I became a social worker because I love making a difference in someone’s life, simply put. I love it because it allows you to deeply connect with patients throughout their care. No two days are the same. I get to experience the privilege of witnessing resilience daily. #KnowYourProvider

Meet Rich and Hunter Durant: Elliot Hospital’s World Champion Arm Wrestlers.Rich has been a dedicated member of the Elliot Hospital team for 30 years, starting his career as a mechanic and now working in HVAC. Born at Elliot Hospital, Rich's journey here has been marked by professional growth and personal connections. Elliot Hospital even supported his college education, a gesture that Rich deeply appreciates. What keeps him at the Elliot? The people. "My job carries me through the hospital, and I see people I know everywhere. Some I just met and others I have known for 30 years," he shares. Rich's passion for arm wrestling began at the age of five. In 2021, Rich made history with his son Hunter by becoming the first father-son duo to win the World Arm Wrestling Championship in Orlando, FL. After skipping the 2022 competitions, they returned triumphantly in 2023, both undefeated in Malaysia, regaining their world champion titles.Hunter, also born at Elliot Hospital, currently works as a dietary aide in the Elliot Cafe. Mary Wainright, a dedicated volunteer eucharistic minister, has been a beacon of compassion and faith at Elliot Hospital for 22 years. Since answering a call for volunteers she saw in her church bulletin, Mary has devoted approximately 2,000 hours to visiting patients, offering them communion, prayer, and an attentive ear. What Mary enjoys most about her role is the unpredictability of each visit and she treasures the opportunity to meet interesting people. Her passion for helping others extends beyond her work as a eucharistic minister. Mary also volunteers with the VNA Hospice and cares for her neighbors.Mary’s philosophy is rooted in service and kindness. “I believe strongly that we are called to serve one another, love tenderly, and walk humbly with God,” she says. This belief has guided her throughout her entire life in caregiving. In addition to her volunteer work, Mary cherishes her family. Born in New York City as the oldest of 16 children, Mary’s life has always been full of love and dedication to others. She and her husband Kevin are proud parents of three and grandparents to five wonderful grandchildren. We are incredibly grateful for Mary and the selfless service she provides. Thank you, Mary, for being a critical part of our team.

The 6th Annual Walk for Hope on June 9th brought more than 400 community members together for a walk across the Southern New Hampshire University Campus. Despite the rain, the community showed up to support, inspire, and offer hope to those impacted by cancer. The Walk for Hope raised nearly $70,000 for a variety of necessary services for cancer patients and their families, including education nutrition resources, transportation assistance, and mental health programs. There is still time to give to the Solinsky Center for Cancer Care’s Walk for Hope.
