How to use speedup on OpenEmu? ›

If you find the controls need further adjustment, hit the gear icon on the OpenEmu toolbar and click Edit Game Controls to tweak the controller scheme. The game should accept these new controls on the fly, without needing to restart.

Adding cheats

To add a cheat code, you must be running a game. Within the game window, move the mouse to produce the HUD bar, and click the cog/gear icon near the center. If the core supports cheat codes, a menu item called Select Cheat will be available.

Although emulating a game is not explicitly illegal, downloading copyrighted code (in this case, downloading a video game) is, and the many fan-made or parody games that one can play on emulators occupy something of a legal gray zone.

Instead of adding these BIOS files into OpenEmu like a game ROM, you will have to drag them into the ~/Library/Application Support/OpenEmu/BIOS folder directly.

With OpenEmu, it is extremely easy to add, browse, organize and with a compatible gamepad, play those favorite games (ROMs) you already own. For macOS (OS X) 10.14.4 or above.

The defaults in place are generally "best" selected for compatibility or maintenance/usability reasons, but if you wish to change the default core for a supported system: Make sure the core you want to use is installed. Launch OpenEmu, go to Preferences > Cores and install any cores you wish to use.

Like many emulators, OpenEmu allows the use of cheat codes to change the way a game plays (invincibility, level skipping, etc.). Cheat-code support in OpenEmu is determined by each core and its underlying emulation code.

At the lower left of the overlay you will find a selector with three icons. The left-most option will set the speed to 0.5x, which is half speed. The middle icon will set the game speed to normal, and the right-hand icon will speed up gameplay to the selected fast-forward speed (default 2x).

Speed and Alternate Speed can be set between 25-400% in the menu. The Speed (only) currently can be set by hotkey (minus and equals by default). The Alternate Speed is used by the 'fast forward' hotkey (tab by default); therefore it doubles as a slow-motion hotkey. To change the alternate speed, ctrl+click in the menu.
