I’ve had trouble getting things set up and making sure my Play:3 devices work on my current Sonos network. I have them working now, connected by ethernet, and I’m using the current control app on my Mac and my iPhone. I’ve been testing them and when I hit “Play” on my phone or Mac, it can take 4-6 seconds (it seems to vary) before the music starts playing. When I hit Pause, there’s still a delay, but it doesn’t seem to be as long as when I hit Play.

Once I make sure these are working properly, I’d like to put them into a home theater grouping with a Playbar and Sub. (Right now I have a One and One SL in there. I want to remove them so I can use them with AirPlay in other rooms and put the Play:3s in that room in place of the newer speakers.) I’m thinking if I’m going to use these in a theater setup, a delay will either keep them out of sync with the other speakers, or may cause other problems.

What can I do about this delay? (I have looked at this page, but I don’t see a way to get to SonosNet. Whenever I go to Settings->System->Network, all I get is a blank page with “Manage Networks” at the top and nothing to manage.)

The phone app says my system is up to date.

Have you gone to Remove Surrounds to remove the Ones, and then Add Surrounds to add the Play 3s?

Your surround speakers bond with the soundbar by its own wifi network so they will be kept in sync. You don’t need to worry about whether they currently have any sync issues.

(And did you update the app yesterday and run the subsequent firmware update?)

They’re not in the home theater grouping yet. As I said, that’s what I intend to do once I have these working. I’m not going to put them in there until there’s no issue like this.

I went to System Update (yesterday) and told it to update. It did say it had to update the Play:3s - I was surprised because the speaker update was really fast.

All I can suggest is Removing Surrounds, then adding the Play:3s. I believe very strongly that they will function correctly, and all in-sync as they will be bonded directly to the Playbar. (The surrounds will no longer be on your wifi - they will be controlled by the wifi coming from the Playbar.)

But IF they ended up not working properly, you could simply remove them and put the Ones back. You've nothing to lose in giving it a go.

None of the involved speakers are on wifi at this point. (I like to keep anything that’s not mobile on ethernet when I can for several reasons.)

Good point - nothing really to lose at this point. Just have to save doing this until I have enough time to experiment (instead of hoping it works right off - and we know that never happens!).

Let me rephrase the first part to be sure I get what you’re saying. Once I add these to replace the current devices I’m using for surround, since they’ll be tied in directly to the Playbar, that’ll take over and it should eliminate the delay, since it’ll be the Playbar talking to them instead of the control app. Is that a fair way to put it?
